Back to School Fundraiser

Whether you are in elementary middle school, high school, or college the look the fill in the momentum of the school year is often established on that very first day however, school supplies, school fees, and school meals can quickly deplete the family’s household budget. Ultimately many families find that they have only pennies remaining for school clothes and for some new school shoes are never an option.

For 12 years Rotary club of Santa Fe Del Sur, has supported struggling families by helping them buy new shoes for their kids for the first day of school. I have been involved in this project with Rotary Club of Santa Fe Del Sur since its inception and we have grown every year. “ I once had a father come up to me at one of the events crying and telling me that he is so happy that his son will not be bullied at school because he has a new pair of shoes “. We work with local non-profit outreach organizations. 12 years ago, we were helping out 25-30 kids, now we are reaching between 120-150 per year. Working with organizations like Adalente After School Programs, Esperanza Shelters for Battered Families, Native American Student Services, Villa Therese Catholic Clinic, and Santa Fe Youth Shelters, you get a cross section of need from all different parts of the community.

Our goal is to put as many pairs of shoes on as many children’s feet, 100% of the donations go to this effort with no overhead and we also partner with Shoe Dept. Encore who contributes generously to the initiative which could not be possible without the help from Rotary of Santa Fe Del Sur Foundation as well as Rotary International. This year’s campaign is August 24th and the 31st, we are expecting 75-80 kids each day and hope to get to 200 new shoes on feet by 2025. All donations can be tax deductible.
